KNOCK...KNOCK

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Luke 11:10 NKJ)

The door to the Kingdom of God is a door that that we should all run to, and yet it seems we spend more time expecting it to come to us. Jesus came preaching the good news of the gospel and revealing the grace (special favor and blessing) of God. His life was the light to reveal the life that God desires for us. So what are doing about it?

Someone once told me that God had given them a scripture for me and that it was the familiar scripture about God having opened a door for me that no man could shut. Needless to say, I received that word and have in fact experienced much favor in my life. At the same time, I feel that perhaps I have been a bit too casual about the way I have accessed that promise. I wonder if in fact I have slowed down God’s timetable by being patient where I should have been accelerating. Let me explain how I understood what God revealed to me concerning the asking, seeking, and knocking.

We have all asked one thing or another of God. It is pretty easy to ask and it really does not move us too far out of a comfort zone to go ahead and do it. In fact it really takes no commitment what ever to ask.

The next step is seeking. Really moving into the seeker realm takes a bit more commitment. But even at the seeker level we can stay back from the door. We can go to church a little more than the next person and think that does it. We can even read our bible when we are not in church and convince ourselves we are really seeking. We can even add to that by talking about the things of God with others. All of these things are important, but we can do them and still not go overboard with God. Asking and seeking are things that can be done from a distance.

Knocking, on the other hand, requires moving into the proximity of the door! This takes a real move on our part. As I thought of this I was reminded of when I was a young man and started being interested in girls. Does anyone remember the first time they called the home of someone they liked? I really did not want to ask for the girl! I wanted her to answer. I admit I hung up once or twice so as not to have to speak with a parent. Over time I had to be willing to do whatever it took in order to talk the object of my affection. I likened that to the seeker stage when I would speak to whoever answered the phone. However, going the home and knocking on the door was a huge step. I had to be prepared to face whoever came to the door and even step in.

Stepping into God’s way of doing things (His Kingdom) is such a great opportunity, but for some reason we allow fear of the unknown or wrong ideas that we have learned to keep us at a distance. It is time for us to step up and knock! He will open the door. Will we step in?
