KNOW IT ALL
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.(John 16:13)
I don’t think that anyone appreciates a know it all, except for the know it all that is. The reason is because no one really knows it all. They may know a lot, but there is only one who really knows it all, and that one is God. He knows all things. He sees and hears all things. He is able to do all things. He gives us the opportunity to believe all things!
It is a liberating day when we understand that we do not know everything and that God does. The person who just knows that they are a failure, understands that God knows something they do not! The person who thinks they know so much, is set free from feeling like they have to impress people with what they know. Once we come to this understanding we are in a place to have our faith perfected in love.
If we always know that at best we only know part of all there is to know, God is able to guide us and fine tune all of our gifts. If on the other hand, we become convinced that the part we know is all there is, we can miss the greater part. For instance, if we take Jesus’ statement concerning the man born blind as all there is to know, we will decide that God just randomly causes these things so there is nothing we can do about it. We need to remember that Jesus healed the man instantly. But then we might decide that God only wants to heal those who are healed instantly. Some people know that if you do not get healed instantly there is something more wrong with you. Other people know that God does not want to heal everyone. Other people know that God wants to teach us a lesson by making us sick. The list is long concerning what people think they know.
It is fine to think we know things. We need to know things. It just becomes problematic if we think we know all there is to know. At best, the truth is we all have bugs in our system and God has sent the Holy Spirit to help us fix those bugs. He gives us the option of installing the fix or choosing to fix it later. We can even refuse to fix it all if we want.
I have discovered that He has a multitude of ways to direct and correct errors. In my quest to love Him more, He has shown me how to do it as He directs me in love for others. At the same time He reveals even greater understanding into His love for me. The key to learning from God is having a desire to know what He knows about things.
One day, we really will know it all. On that day we will be amazed at all that we could have known earlier if only we would have been willing to know it. I am sure I know this about what I think I know; I do not want it to rob me of what God still has for me to know. Are we prepared to learn something new at the expense of what we thought we knew? Jesus was a great one for exposing people to new things that blew away everything they knew. We can know this for sure. There are always great rewards in those new things that God reveals. Jesus came to show us a new and better way.
