KNOW THE LOVE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is. (Ephesians 3:18 NLT)
Recently, I was blessed and humbled when someone came to me and shared something that God had revealed to them concerning me. It was a word that brought tears to my eyes and a flood of joy to my heart. Part if it was God referring to me and saying, “if only he knew how much I love him.” It blew me away that God would tell someone else that about me. Since that day, each time I have considered the thought I have just been blessed all over again. Then today it seemed there was a little additional light shed on it.
It seemed to me that while God was loving me, He might also be gently rebuking me. It was like He might be saying if I understood how much He really loved me then I would trust Him more, doubt Him less, and see much more of the glory of God manifested in my life and in the lives around me. Are you following me here? I mean I am praying that I can make this clear. In all honesty it is like a flower that is beginning to bud in my spirit. I sense that God is very anxious to reveal a greater depth of His love.
He wants us all to understand His great love. While we recently took a look at what love is and how it affects our lives and the lives of those around us, now we need to consider the fact that even though we do not have loving perfected, God does. And in His word He tells us that He wants us to have the power to understand this love.
Why would it take power to understand His love? Well, for example, my first reaction to having someone tell me that God told them He loved me was to come up with several reasons why I sure did not deserve for God to love me so much. Let’s face it, we all have a problem believing that God could love us so much that He would want to pour His love through us to others. We all tend to think that only someone else could be in that position with God. It is just too much for our natural minds to comprehend. Well, we need to get over that attitude and just accept what God says. Otherwise, while we are trying to decide why God should not do something, someone else may be robbed of what God wants to do for them.
What God wants to do is not dependent on what we can do; it is dependent upon how much we trust Him to do what He alone can do. It is His love that heals people. It is His love that delivers people. It is His love that provides and protects. If we will only realize how much He loves us, then we will feel free to ask no matter what the need is. This is true for everyone who will believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. That same love is extended to all of us, and God wants to pour that through all of us to the whole world. If we don’t receive it all, we cannot spread it all. What do you think?
