KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. (Colossians 1:9)

The most important thing we can gain in this life is knowledge of God’s will. Scripture tells us that knowledge puffs us up, but the knowledge of God’s will keeps us humble. Some folks have gotten so wise in their own eyes that they see no need for God. This is why we pray for all people, because we were all without God and without hope in this world at one time as well.
When we discover all that comes with knowledge of His will, we realize just how foolish it was to live without Him. The problem is that so many cease to seek God’s will once they have discovered salvation. Paul tells the Colossians that they have stepped up their praying for them since they heard about them. And what it is that they have been praying? They prayed that they would receive complete knowledge of His will.
Paul knew only too well how failure to seek God’s will causes problems. He witnessed how the Galatians had started out well, but because they did not keep on, they started heading back towards the law. If you remember, Paul asked them how they could start listening to the Spirit and then allow men to come and rob them of their freedom. (My paraphrase) So when it came to the Colossians, Paul told them that they were praying that they would have spiritual wisdom.
We must remember that God will give us knowledge and understanding. We asked the question recently, “Will we trust?” We also established that freedom comes with the knowledge of God. With those two thoughts firmly established in our hearts and minds, we should always remember to trust God to give us understanding. Then when we are reeling from the craziness of the world around us, we will take a breath and look to God and receive His peace. If takes more than one breath, keep breathing in the Holy Spirit and peace will come.
We all know that we think better when our minds are at ease. The Holy Spirit is peace to our whole being. How many times in your life have you asked someone to stop talking so you could think? How many times have you told yourself to think? These are all opportunities to seek God’s will. This understanding was built into us by the Lord in the womb. Once we gain our relationship with God, we can more perfectly utilize this gift that He has given us. To be honest I had never considered this before. But truly, even when we are without God in our lives, we know that there is something in us encouraging us to think more clearly. How good is God? Truly He has always been faithful, even when we were not and He continues His faithfulness forever.
So I pray for all of us that God would give us complete knowledge of His will. It is always a good day when we are walking in the ways of the Lord.
