LEANING
So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand and powerful arm, with overwhelming terror, and with miraculous signs and wonders. (Deuteronomy 26:8 NLT)
Have you ever thought of the way the Lord brought you out of darkness and into His glorious light. It took a strong hand and a powerful arm to drag me out. He caused overwhelming terror to darkness when He did and what a miracle it was. The same is true for us all.
There was overwhelming terror in Jesus’ life as He paid the price for our exit from the powers of darkness. He made the way for our weakness to be transformed into His strength. Every time we choose Jesus and the life that is ours in Him, it terrorizes the depths of hell. Doesn’t that just make you want to shout and do it as often as possible. Praise the Lord. Go ahead and praise Him. That in itself is enough to make the darkness scream. Oh, how great is our God.
So, what does that have to do with leaning? It seems to me that our lives are filled with leaning. We lean one way and then we lean another. Until we fall at the feet of Jesus, we are tossed in the wind. We are drawn, distracted, attracted, attacked, knocked down, defeated, discouraged, hopeful, and helpless and the list could go on and on. Oh, and maybe more than anything, we are deceived!
That is just the way things were meant to be! Yes, that is a great deception! We were never intended to just be blown about. God wants us to be established in His good land. Just like He wanted Adam and Eve to live in the garden and expand it, He wants us to come into His presence and dwell there.
In His presence is fullness of Joy, no matter what else is going on around us. Our troubles do not need to overwhelm us. When troubles come, we have the option of looking at them or turning to Jesus. Until we make up our minds to stand in faith in Christ Jesus, the devil just blows us around and keeps us thinking and acting like this is the way it was meant to be.
Oh what a joy it is when we yield ourselves to the wind of the Holy Spirit. Jesus breathed on the disciples, and He breathes on us. He draws us and we lean toward Him but then things change, and we lean another way. When we finally call on Him and He saves us everything changes, and life becomes perfect! Well, not exactly, but perfect is accessible.
There are still winds that blow and still times when we lean but the anchor of faith is a game changer. When we are told to fight the good fight of faith, that is what we learn to do. A good fight is one that we win, and Jesus has made us winners! He has made us more than conquerors. If you have read the Bible, you know or have heard all the promises. The promises are what we learn to lean into.
We learn not to be deceived. We learn to enjoy causing terror to the devil. We learn to rejoice just thinking about the Lord and His strong hand and His powerful arm. His hand is still strong, and His arm is still powerful! Don’t forget that!
Jesus finished His course so that we could find and finish ours. Lean in and lean on Jesus.
