LED OR LEARNING
Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.(Psalm 139:10 NKJ)
I was asking the Lord the other day about people being destined for destruction. And I wondered why when we know that God does not want anyone to perish, some would think that He wanted them to, and that it was His plan for them all along. What I understood God to say was that people would believe this way because they Know about Him by the letter of the law and but do not know Him by His heart. Therefore, they do not take into consideration all of the word when they consider how or why one might be headed for destruction. Certainly God could make one person for honor and another for dishonor,(does than mean he did) but then what about the good plans He has for all of His creation. Would He make someone in His image so He could destroy them?
He then spoke to me about people choosing the path of learning or the path of leading. When a person chooses to learn their own way, the picture I got was like our life is a maze. We choose what ever path we want and we get what is on that path. All along each and every path there are opportunities to turn and be led.(By the Holy Spirit of course.) For the lost, there are opportunities for salvation in each and every corridor. For the Christian who has chosen to go the learning path(which by the way is usually the hard way)there are always opportunities to turn things for the best. But always, in every case, God wants us to turn and be led.
The path of leading on the other hand has just as many roads. The difference is that when we submit ourselves to the leading of the Lord, the Holy Spirit simply leads us into truth. He knows the right way, the best way, the only way to life. And so this is of course the easy way.
God said many times, I set before you the way of life and way of death, so choose life. The leading of the Holy spirit is life. Now please don’t get carried away and say that I am suggesting that we do not need to learn. Studying the Word of God to learn to how to be led is certainly good. It is when we choose our own path and decide to learn along the way that the way gets a bit bumpy. And of course, there is the fact that we are learning as we are being led. In fact, it is almost like halter breaking a horse or teaching a dog to walk on a leash. Just as they tug and resist, so we have the same tendency at times. The best move we make though, is when we present ourselves so that He can get the halter on instead of running all over the place to get away.
I can remember when I was a kid and we would go to ride friends horses. It seemed there was always one that was easy to catch, just as sure as there was always one that you would have to chase and chase. My desire is to be one that comes to the fence when the Lord whistles.
What ever path we choose, we can be sure of one thing. God wants to lead us into all truth. So if you feel like you are in maze and hitting dead ends, here is the place to learn that it is easier if He leads. If you have determined to have Him lead, then have confidence that He is faithful to do all that He promises. The only thing that God wants to destroy is our enemies. The sooner we learn this, the better.
