LET IT GO

Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18 NKJ)

In the midst of seeking God concerning loving Him, this verse in Matthew came to mind. Because I had always thought of this verse as a spiritual warfare verse, I have to say that I had no clue what it could have to do with loving God. Still I could not get it out of mind and you know what it is like when something from God just keeps coming back!

Then as I prayed, binding things away from people and loosing an open door for them to see the truth, I realized that no matter how much I bound the enemy or prayed open the doors, in the end there was no way I could override the free will of people. There is no doubt that we need to pray for those things, but I knew there was still something else the Lord was trying to get through to me.

Well, I nearly tipped my little scooter over when it hit me that I should bind myself to God’s love and to loving God and let everything else go. Yes! I should bind myself to the truth of God’s Word and loose every doubt and fear. Suddenly this made all the sense in God’s world to me.

Just before this verse, Jesus was talking to them about sins between brothers and how to approach that, ending with not letting them take you down with them. Don’t choose anything or anyone over what is right and true in the eyes of God. (My summary)

Immediately after this statement by Jesus, He speaks of the power of agreement and then He speaks to Peter about forgiveness. If we are going to agree in prayer and believe, then we are going to need to bind ourselves to the truth. We are going to have to loose every thought that comes against that truth. We are going to have to loose every thing that we see or hear that comes against that truth and stand. In order to forgive, we are going to have to bind ourselves to the promises of God and loose all bitterness and unforgiveness from our lives. We are just plain going to need to “let it go.”

When we bind ourselves to the love of God, then we are bound to the treasures and benefits that heaven holds for us. When we bind ourselves to healing, deliverance, protection, guidance, provision, or any of the promises of God, and loose all doubts and fears we can stand strong in the Lord.

I know from experience, that there are times when we grow weak as we are standing. As I considered that, I had a picture of being tightly bound to Jesus and when my arms were weak, even if I let go, I was tied right where I needed to be. Also, those weak arms could no longer hold on to what held me back. Bound to Jesus we can just let them go and watch those things flow to the sea of forgetfulness.
