LET US GO

I was glad when they said to me; let us go into the house of the Lord. (Psalm 122:1 NKJ)

When I was younger I can remember traveling long distances, and expending a sizable amount of resources for various types of entertainment. This ranged from large concerts and sporting events to going to some club that we just had to check out. Sometimes it involved a good amount of planning, and other times the plans were made when we showed up and we just entered in. There was always a high degree of anticipation and varying amounts and types of preparation as we entered into these adventures. The majority of the adventures were before we entered into a relationship with Christ, so needless to say they were very different from our lives now!

The point I am making here, is that we were glad to go and we did all that we knew how to do to see that it was a great time. I am sorry to say that I have very little memory of many of the actual events, but I do remember the preparation. I also remember that when the event was of the planned ahead nature the preparation and anticipation were even greater. Sometimes we would have warm ups in celebration of the future opportunity. In other words, “anything for a good time.”

Well, I think we should be the same about our times with God. I like what David said in this Psalm. He was glad when they said let’s go up to the house of the Lord. We know that David enjoyed God’s presence because there is one account in the Bible where he danced and twirled so wildly that his wife was embarrassed at how he exposed himself. This did not bother David though. He assured her that He would be even more exuberant for the Lord in the future.

We also know that David made great preparations for his time with Lord. He stored up a fortune in treasure in order to build the Lord a temple only to be told that He would not be able to do it. He still left all the treasure for his son Solomon to go ahead and do the project.

We need to ask ourselves if we are glad for the opportunity to worship, praise, and love on the Lord. Do we plan and prepare and imagine a great time? Do we anticipate His presence and come prepared to pour our love out on Him? Do we have personal warm up celebrations as our opportunities approach? I can remember the first time we made a long trip to attend a large gospel conference. I was so excited that I was high on the Lord in the parking lot before ever entering the building.

I believe if we will get stirred up, excited, and full of anticipation, we will experience some things that God has been waiting to pour out on us. So, “let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the house of the Lord.” Get ready for a good time in the presence of the Lord. Anticipate the moment and accelerate into it. Raise your level of expectancy in private and public times of worship. God help us to learn to do this whether we are alone or in a crowd.
