LIFE AND PEACE
If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. (Romans 8:6 NLT)
Jesus said that He had come so we could have life abundantly. This scripture tells us that when we turn control over to the Holy Spirit we have life and peace. On the other hand, if our minds are controlled by our sinful nature there is death. In my mind it seems that we should be able to easily detect death and peace. We should be able to quickly recognize which way our thinking and actions are leaning and know when a correction is necessary.
We all enjoy life and peace much more than we enjoy death and destruction. Everyone likes peace. Everyone likes things to go smoothly. Jesus offers us smooth. In the bumpiest of times, we can enjoy the smooth ride when we allow the Holy Spirit to hold the wheel. Scripture tells us how God will smooth bumpy roads, level mountains, and provide refreshing springs even in our desert experiences.
All that is required for us to experience the life that is in the Word of God is that we believe it. If you read the Gospel of John, you will find Jesus explaining the need to believe. John starts by telling us that the Word became flesh. Jesus tells them that they must partake of His flesh and blood. His words are life to all who believe them. The Holy Spirit is given to lead us into all truth. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
So we need to be partakers of the life that is in Christ Jesus. There were many people who heard what Jesus said and saw the miracles He did that still would not believe He was who He said He was. He told them that His teaching and His miracles testified to the truth of who He was. We must receive His teaching and His miracles. His miracles follow His word. Do we expect His Word to manifest in our midst?
Is His word our life? Do our lives revolve around Him and depend upon Him? Is He in our thoughts? Is He the one we look to in all things? Is He important all the time? Do we command His presence in our lives? Faith commands the presence of God. He cannot lie, and He said that when we call He answers. Can we believe it?
I realized recently as I read Psalm 16:10 that it was talking about me being dead and rotting. He was talking about all of us, for we are all dead in our sins until we find Jesus. I was rotting away, but God would not discard me. He did not want me to perish. He does not want anyone to perish. Don’t settle for less than life and peace. If you do not know Jesus, pray right now and ask Him for His life and peace and then be filled with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide your life.
