LIFE GIVES LIGHT

Life itself was in Him, and this life gives light to everyone. (John 1:4 NLT)

For our natural minds, it is very difficult to grasp the idea of the life that is in Christ. Someone can say it a hundred times, but until we are willing to receive it, we just cannot comprehend it. However, the moment we open our hearts to consider it, like a flash the light shines in our darkness.

This opening is created with something as simple as a thought that there must be something more. The sincere cry of, “Lord Help!” has transformed many. The point I want to make is that God is not trying to keep the light from us. He is doing everything to get it to us. No amount of darkness can keep the true light from shining through.

The light is intended to illuminate the life of Christ. Jesus was the manifestation of the life that God offers all of us. It is sad that so many want to portray Jesus as having a miserable life. So much focus is placed on His suffering that we forget it was short lived. Please do not misunderstand, I am not making light of the suffering Jesus did for all of us. I am simply suggesting that there were over three years of dynamic life and ministry that often is overlooked! It would also seem that the thirty years of preparation went pretty well.

In the end, Jesus picked up His cross and won the ultimate victory. Could it be that this is why He said we all need to pick up our cross? He did not say we should carry it around like a burden forever. It seems to me that He died and was raised again and was then seated at the right hand of the Father. So if we pick up our cross and are born again, it might make sense for us to expect to walk in that light of life.

His life gives light and the light in turn, is intended to reveal His life. And His life is the demonstration of what our life can be. That is why He said we would do even greater things than He did. Of course in order for us to do what He said, we have to walk in the light of that truth.

Any time we come to a door, we have the choice of walking in or walking by. We can also choose to walk in without turning on the light. If we don’t go in we miss it completely. If we walk in and leave the light off we don’t find much.

I think that often times we are guilty of passing by certain doors that God opens for us. Other times we may walk in, but we don’t bother to turn on the light. If we don’t find anything, we tire of sitting in the dark and just go right back out. When we do this, we don’t just miss the light, we miss the life that was in the light. He came that we might have life. There is more light and more life than we are experiencing and I want it! How about you?
