LIFE YOU CAN TRUST
These things I have written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:13KJV)
I know it sounds silly to say that God had a purpose in getting His Word to us, but the fact is we often fail to truly appreciate His plan. We are so fortunate to have the Bible and yet people want to argue over whether it really is the word of God or not. If that is something that you question, then the rest of this writing may mean very little to you. However, if you lean toward the idea that God got this book in our hands for a purpose, by all means read on. Even if you doubt it, it won’t take long to see if there is help here for the hungry heart!
John said that he was writing to those who believe in Jesus to let them know that they have eternal life. It is so important to be secure in this fact. John settled this for them and went one step further assuring us all that we should go ahead and believe in the name of the Son of God. Sounds to me like eternal life was one thing and trusting in the Name of Jesus for abundant life was quite another.
No doubt, there were believers who were going around and trusting in the Name of Jesus just like Jesus told them that they should. The were probably praying for the sick, seeking God to meet their needs, casting out devils, and anointing people in the Name of Jesus. We know there were lots of people who tried to put this sort of behavior down. People still are trying to stop believers. Fortunately, God made it a point through John to let all believers know they are doing the right thing.
How many people who believe in the Son of God for eternal life never bother to seek Him for abundant life? Friends, God’s word is powerful and always accomplishes what God says it will accomplish. Jesus told us to ask in His name. He told us all what we would do in His name. He said all things are possible if we will only believe. So let’s look at this scripture not only as a promise, but also as an encouragement and challenge to go ahead and do what God says we should do.
Get eternal life down deep in your heart. Get that part so settled that you are confident enough to step out on the rest of the Word of God. Now begin to imagine what the Name of Jesus is able to do for you if you will simply believe all that He has said. Forget what has not happened. Forget all the reasons why He might not answer prayer. Assume that the Bible was written just for you because God wanted you to experience the benefits of His love. Imagine God hearing your every prayer. Imagine His focus being totally on you and hanging on every word you pray. Then imagine Him saying Amen in agreement with you. Would that change your life? Are you ready for a change? I am! I want more love, more power, more of Jesus in my life.
