LIFT THE CUP
I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord. (Ps. 116:13 NKJ)
Over the years, I have taken up the cup many times as I called upon the name of the Lord. I know that Jesus gave us that cup to represent the blood of a new and better covenant; a covenant guaranteed by His own blood. I have also on many occasions prayed the blood of Jesus over different situations and circumstances because I believed it was the thing to do. I based that on the fact that others who I admire and respect did it so I should too. However I have always had to admit that I really did not have a great understanding of why. Sometimes you just have to do things by faith even without understanding.
I have read books in the past and studied the Word of God but for some reason the light just never really came on for me. But God says to seek Him for understanding and so that is what I did. Then just recently God sent me a book. It came through a ministry, but still it was God who was answering my prayers. It came from Kenneth Copeland Ministries and was written by his daughter Kellie Copeland Kutz. Through this book God opened my understanding so that I could receive the beginning of what I hope to be many revelations concerning “The Blood.”
As I thought about that first Passover Lamb when God brought Israel out of Egypt, it occurred to me that there had been a lot sacrificing and blood going on around those people for a long time. I wonder how many of them really understood why they did it. Was it just something Abraham started? It no doubt became just a ritualistic motion that they went through because they had always done it. But on this particular occasion, they got to see the power of that blood first hand.
No doubt when the word first came that they were to kill a lamb, put blood on their doors, eat the lamb, and under no circumstance leave their homes, there were those who murmured and doubted and probably some who did not bother to obey. That night, they saw how that blood sealed death and destruction out of their homes. Can you imagine how their attitudes might have changed concerning the blood sacrifices? Suddenly there was a very real example of how the blood worked. Suddenly it made sense to build an altar and sprinkle blood. Don’t you find that understanding makes the worship more enjoyable?
What may have seemed strange and like just so much wasted effort before suddenly took on a whole new meaning. It is good to do things because it seems like a good thing to do, but it is even better to have the eyes of our understanding opened so that we can do them with faith and conviction. I know longer wonder why I should plead the blood. I no longer think it sounds a bit strange. I now understand that the blood is good for everything. It not only seals the enemy out, but it seals the blessing of God in. The devil knows there is power in the blood. He knows that he cannot go where the blood has been applied. That is why he runs around looking for places to attack where it has been left out.
That is also why even though I really did not get it where the blood was concerned, I often felt like the Lord led me to apply it anyway. Looking back I can think of a lot of places where I could have applied it and avoided some problems. Now I am determined to leave nothing uncovered. I can honestly say that I can already see changes taking place as I consistently cover things with the blood of the Lamb. Oh yes, lift the cup and put it all under the blood.
