LIGHT CHOICES

But they made light of it and went their ways...(Matthew 22:5 NKJ)

It is always interesting when you come across a word that can have such opposite meanings. Jesus is the light of the world, and yet people can make light of that if they prefer. In this particular passage of scripture the people are being invited to the wedding feast but they make light of the invitation and just go about their business as usual. We must be careful that we do not make light of the great opportunities that God gives us.

Do we make light of the opportunity to worship the Lord? Do we think that showing up in the place of worship is enough effort on our part? Do we come to worship with hearts that are prepared? When we are there, are we light, or are we biding our time waiting for it to get over? Do we receive light and take it out with us, or do we douse the light before it has an opportunity to produce fruit.

It seems that we have a choice when we are exposed to the light. We can touch our torch to it and take it into our lives. We can make light of it and walk away from it. Or we can try and put it out.

Jesus is the light of the world. They thought killing Him would put His light out, but it didn’t. They tried to put the light of the gospel out, but they could not. They killed and tortured believers but to no avail. There was just no stopping the light. People today still try and put out the light. They will do just about anything to keep the light from affecting them. Be ware of any one or any thing, that tries to put out your light.

Lots of people simply make light of the light. Some people have determined that they can live in the darkness and the light is not all that important. This is sad, but at least they are not trying to put out the light. On the other hand, there are those who have seen the light and walked in a measure of light, who decide they do not need any more light. Ultimately, they are in danger of leaving the light behind and entering into greater darkness than they could have ever imagined.

Of course, the wise person seeks the light and touches his torch to every bit of light they can find so that they glow brighter and brighter with the Light of the Lord. Let’s be sure that we do not take lightly any part of the Word of God. Let’s all make a declaration that we will seek the light and walk in it. Don’t be drawn by darkness within or led astray by those who prefer darkness. Keep walking in and seeking the Light of the World.
