LIGHT IS
The light shines in the darkness and darkness can never extinguish it. (John 1:5 NLT)
Light is especially bright in the dark and it is most needed in the dark, but it is also used and useful in light of day. Light helps to bring things into focus. Even on a bright day, lights on our vehicles help to bring attention to other drivers and help us to see them.
Scriptures tell us that we are the light of the world. We are told to let our lights shine. We are also told that Jesus, the true light came into the world and the darkness rejected Him. Obviously the darkness could not keep Him for shining!
We have black out curtains in our bedroom because my bride is bothered by light when she sleeps. Recently when we stayed in a motel, she was up finding things to block the little glowing lights of the television and making sure the clock was turned away from our bed. If you have ever tried to do that, you know that it is really difficult if not impossible to keep the glow of the blocked light from still being there. Isn’t it amazing that something you do not even notice in the day time can keep you awake at night?
Concerning the life of a Christian, we must realize the His light desires to shine through us. The deeper our commitment, the stronger our battery and we do not make the light, we simply reveal it. It is His light that must shine through us. This happens as we learn to rest in Him and allow His desires to become our desires.
Recently someone told me it was hard to be a Christian. I have heard that before, but I do not really agree with that. There are hard things that take place, but it seems to me that the greatest difficulties come from holding on to things that no longer are ours to hold on to. If we hold on to fear, or habits, or even things we think are true but are at odds with His truth, then, it certainly seems hard, but it is not being a Christian that is difficult it is us!
I used to be able to read things better in dim light than I can now. Now I not only need light on the subject, but also some reading glasses. The thing is, if I want to read it; if it want to see it; I do what I need to do so I can read it clearly.
This is what we need to do when it comes to our walk with God. We need allow the light to shine on what we are not clear on. The clearer it becomes to us, the clearer His light becomes to others. The darkness can never extinguish the Light. Darkness tried when Jesus was crucified, but all that happened was the light shined brighter and in a multitude of places. I love it when I see the Light come on in a person who is receiving the truth. I love it when the light comes on as I am reading the Word of God or listening to someone share the truth. If you know Jesus, His light is in you, if you don’t know Jesus His light is shining for you. He is the true light. Can you see it?
