LIKE GOD

With these gifts you can share in being like God. (2 Peter 1:4b ERV)

What is God like? We really need to know what He is like if we are going to be like Him. And yes are supposed to be like Him. We are not going to be Him or try to replace Him as Lucifer so desired, but we can and should desire to be like Him.

When I was a youngster I wanted to be like every professional football player I watched. I also wanted to be like Superman and would try flying off our porch railing. I wanted to be like Elvis and tried to sing like him. We all have wanted to be like someone. So why is it that we allow ourselves to be robbed of being like God when He says we will be like Him?

The more our minds are renewed and the more we are transformed, the less we will try and be God and the more we will desire to be like Him.

It stands to reason that if we are not like Him, we may not be His. We do not become like Him in actions instantaneously, but we are empowered for the Journey in a twinkling of the eye. Yes it is a journey, but as it is with all journeys, we need to commit to the trip. We must get on the road determined to complete it.

If God says we should be like Him, then we should set our hearts and minds to accomplish that. We leave some things behind and we take off. Some take off like a rocket and others may take off like a slug, but as long as we take off that is the key.

It should be the desire of every Christian to be like God. We should take on His character. First and foremost, God is love. So our love for Him becomes a love like His. He is merciful. He is gentle. Well you get that picture. Study Him as you seek Him.

He is also powerful, and we should be willing to be powerful. He wants His glory and power to be on display. He wants to confirm His word with signs and wonders, so we need to be willing to release the word and bring Him glory.

God never displayed any weakness only power. Jesus became momentarily weak on the cross so that we could be made strong. Jesus now lives by the power of God and we have been given that same power to live by.

I want to be like God. I do not want to be God. I want to reveal God. Paul told the folks to follow him as he followed Christ. The reason that God performed powerful miracles was because He was expected to.

We live in world that needs to behold and experience the power of God. We need to remove the restrictions that we have placed on the power of God. Remember, it is His idea to be glorified by the good works that we do. Love and act; be like God!
