LIMITATIONS
You judge me with all your human limitations, but I am not judging anyone.(John 8:15 NLT)
No matter who we are or how far we have come by worldly or by spiritual standards, we better believe that we are still very limited by our humanness. In this scripture, Jesus was simply telling them that could not really make a valid judgment about Him, because they judged things according only to standards that they could understand. In other words, they were limited by their human ability to understand.
Let’s face it, there are a whole lot of things in this world that we do not understand. In fact, there are things that people have figured out how to make, and they still do not understand entirely how or why they work.
When it comes to the kingdom of God, there is probably nothing that causes more problems in the operation of our faith, than our human understanding. We are just to limited by our senses. When we are hurt or sick, it is very difficult for us to overcome that and apply the truth of what Jesus has taught us about healing. When we are in a financial bind, it is difficult for us to get past our lack, in order to give our way into victory.
Just as the Pharisees were unable to see Jesus for who He really was, so it is with us quite often. The only way to get over our natural limitations, is for us to press into super natural faith. Jesus could see and feel everything that everyone else could, but He said that He simply did what His Father told Him to do. Had he allowed his humanness to limit Him, there are lot of things that never would have happened.
Imagine hearing that a little girl has died and your Father says, tell them not to fear we will raise her up. Or how about seeing a man who has been paralyzed for 38 years and your Father says, ask him if he wants to be healed. How about having Peter come and say they want tax money, and your Father says, tell him to go and catch a fish, the money will be in its mouth. How many examples can you add to this list from your study of the word. How many examples can you find in your own life where God has done extraordinary things. Things that you really did not even exercise faith to receive, and yet God was showing you that He is able to do way beyond what you can comprehend.
I wish I knew how to get past my own fleshly limitations so I could tell you some easy steps. But I have not yet mastered it, and what gains I have managed to make in that direction have certainly not been of my own doing. I would say that the biggest step in moving away from own limitations is in acknowledging just how limited we are. Then each time we find ourselves doubting God, and resisting His word, we will realize that it is our own limitations that are causing the problem. Remember, faith will move mountains.
