LISTEN TO HIM
Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly love Son. Listen to Him.” (Mark 9:7)
How are you at listening to Jesus? Don’t try to say you don’t hear Him, because you do! We all do! We always have. We just have not and do not always pay attention. Don’t get upset and turn away; think about it.
We all listen to what we want to hear. Not just when it comes to Jesus speaking but when it comes to almost everything, we choose what we agree with and what we do not. Sometimes we do not necessarily make the best choices! God was clear from the cloud. The time was growing short and these guys needed to focus. Of course, they did not always focus on what God wanted. So, we are in good company when we leap to something more comfortable that fits what we prefer. We need to get over that!
This week as Vikki and I traveled we listened to some teachings and I logged on to some things; probably the things I liked best, but also things that reminded me and challenged me to listen to Him. One thing was, here we are! We are here! This reminded me to do whatever was necessary to get to the place where God wants us. I am here right now so I can do what God wants. I rejoice as I wait upon the Lord.
When we read the Word of God, we must be willing to get to the place He is leading us. Today, I read again of the wealthy young man who quickly walked away at the thought of selling his stuff and giving to the poor. What if he would have simply asked if Jesus wanted all of his stuff or if Jesus wanted his stuff to be available. If we have anything that is not available, we need to consider this. Don’t just turn away at the challenges of what Jesus says.
What do you think when Jesus is saying to cut off your hand or foot or gouge out your eye? Those are pictures that can certainly help us to watch what we hold on to or where we walk or what we look at! Get to the place where hearing Him is the most desirable place.
Another person spoke of “easy living”! I like easy living. Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy. He also says we will face difficulties. So, what is it? Is it easy or difficult? Yes! If we yoked to Him, it is easy. The difficult part is getting to the yoke or learning to stay yoked and ready. Choose the life that Jesus promises. Choose to listen to that voice from the cloud and listen to Him! Choose to trust Him. When Jesus told them He was going to die and rise again. James and John came looking for good seats in the kingdom. Jesus questioned if they were sure they could do that. Of course they could! At least they thought so. The others got angry that they would ask such a thing and Jesus told them all that it needed to be different for them. They would need to serve one another! There sure are some difficult things in this easy living. Listen to Him, He will take you through!
