LIVE A REPORT
Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. (Acts 14:27 NKJ)
I am sure you are familiar with the cheer that says, “Everywhere we go, people want to know, who we are. So we tell them…” Well, people really do want to know who you are and what you are all about. Their assessment of you will be based on what they hear you say and on what they see you do. Sometimes people form an opinion based on what they think they know, but it may only prove that they do not know you at all! That could be because they have faulty outside information or it may be because we do not give a clear report. David prayed that the words of his mouth and the meditations of his heart would be acceptable to God. This was because he had come to understand that if he kept his heart on God and spoke of those things, his actions would follow the same course.
The thing that the Lord has been impressing upon my heart is the need to be a witness to the goodness of God. I think we need to work on witnessing the way Jesus and the apostles and early believers did. The thought of witnessing usually brings to mind letting people know that all have sinned. While this is true, it really did not tell anyone anything new. The fact is that most people, who do not know the Lord, know very well that they are sinners. Jesus told people to repent because the Kingdom of heaven was at their finger tips. Jesus came telling the Good News of the Kingdom of God and how to get in on it. He went about doing good and so did the disciples.
After Jesus departure, they continued to tell the same good news and God continued to bear witness to the word of His grace. They continually gave reports of what God had planned for the people as well as reports of what God was doing for people. They spoke of what He was doing in their lives and told the people He would do the same things for them. They would go and tell how God healed and people would come to be healed. The word spread of God’s deliverance and people came to be delivered. The fact that they could repent and be forgiven was good news and it is still good news today. But we can’t just be telling people that they need to repent, we need to show them the benefits and fruits of that repentance.
The day is coming when God will open the eyes of multitudes to their need for Him. That is why we need to report what God has done, is doing, and will do for all who call on Him. We need to declare our confidence in God and in His love. Then when people realize their need for God, they will know someone who knows Him. Live a report that says you know God!
