LIVE FOR JESUS
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life, which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20 NKJ)
What is your first thought when someone says that we should live for Jesus? Up until this week I would have said that I felt it meant that I was supposed to be living my life doing things for Jesus or trying to figure out what would be pleasing to Jesus. But this week as I sought God concerning the treasures of the Kingdom of God I asked what He would like for me to do, and He said, “live for Jesus.” Then it seemed that he amplified that into, “live like Jesus” which of course I know I should do. Then I began to understand that what He was implying was that I was to live and that Jesus would then live through me. Well, He did say we are a temple.
At first this seemed strange, but it was like we are all like speakers in a sound system. We are because He is. If God the power source does not send anything through the Holy Spirit to Christ in us we are lifeless shells. But it is important that are there to receive the signal. So of course the point Paul was getting across was that we died and Christ lives in us so it is no longer we who are living but rather He is living through us.
Jesus came and lived for God and was God. Isn’t that what scripture says? So we in turn live as the express image of Christ. As He was in the world so are we. He said He only did what the Father showed Him and said what the Father told Him. He was able to do that because He believed and trusted God.
So I think what God was saying to me was that I should and therefore we all should live for Jesus. It was not intended as an impossible command; rather it is an encouragement telling us that we can do it just as naturally as Jesus did when He walked on the earth. Give it some thought. It really helps bring light to a lot of scriptures. No wonder scripture says that Christ in us is our hope of glory. And didn’t Jesus say that we would all be one: God in Him and Christ in us? As you consider this many more scriptures will come to your mind confirming this very thing.
Jesus said to receive the Holy Spirit who would reveal all truth and who would comfort us. Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as “another comforter.” Jesus was the comforter when He was with them and now the Holy Spirit would be another comforter. Jesus said, “I will come and dwell in you.” You know if you are going to have a crowd in you that is a good crowd!
The treasure of the Kingdom of God is ours as we simply live our lives. It is in Him that we live and move and have our being. God continues to confirm this and open my eyes to more of the idea of living for Jesus, and I am certain He will do the same for you. Start by accepting the fact that it is not in what you do, but who you are in Christ.
