Why is it so hard for us to believe that God wants to bless us? Why is it that when we talk about being blessed, people are quick to bring up people who are not blessed? It seems we would rather focus on the trials that people have had than on the victories that Jesus has given. It is as though people find fault in the idea of desiring God’s blessings.

I know from experience that not everything that happens in the life of a Christian is easy. We all have our own trials. But that does not change God. He is always wonderful! I know that when I go to Him, He always comforts me. I have never experienced a trial that God did not end up turning into a blessing. The hurts are real, but so is the healing.

I also know that it is not always easy to fight through the clouds, but it is always worth it in order to receive the rewards of our faithfulness. The key is not to give up. And when it seems the most hopeless we must keep pressing closer to God. We can not allow ourselves to be bounced off the trail as we pursue the prize.

So how do we live in order that God’s love can bless us? We live seeking God. We live focused on His promises. We live casting down doubts and fears, no matter how much effort it takes. As long as we are fighting the good fight of faith, we are winning. It is when we give into despair and doubt that we begin to lose out.

It is true that things do not always go just the way we want. We can be pretty sure that there will be bumps along the way. Jesus told us that we would encounter tribulation in this world. He also told us to be of good cheer because He had overcome the world. In His overcoming, He also provided that we would have the power to overcome.

There is a chorus that says we’ve been made more than conquerors, overcomers in this life. We’ve been made victorious, through the blood of Jesus Christ. This is where our hope lies, and this is where we need to keep our focus in order live blessed. Then no matter what may come or go, with our eyes on Christ, we are blessed.

Notice one more thing if you will. This scripture says that we are to live so that God’s love can bless us as we wait for the eternal life that is coming. That means that there is blessing now in this lifetime and then there is eternal life.

The truth is, that we must be blessed in order to be blessings. This world is full of people who need to be blessed with eternal life and experience the blessed life while they wait. So, instead trying to figure who should be blessed, or why some are blessed and some are not. Why don’t we just focus on the fact that God has promised to bless His children, and press toward the mark for that prize?
