LOCKED UP AND SMOKING

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to Himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News.(Gal 1:6)

We were driving home with a trailer hooked on behind when suddenly it seemed as though our transmission was going out. We were in construction, pulling up a hill and we could barely get 45 mph out of the truck as traffic stacked up behind us. Fortunately we came to the end of the construction as we made it up the hill. I was thinking I may need to pull over, when a truck pulled up alongside of us and motioned to get over. He pulled in ahead of us and ran back saying we had a fire. He was right; we could see smoke and at first I thought it was a tire, but it was a brake locked up. Somehow the electronic brake cable on the trailer has been pulled and well it was not a good scene. Thanks to that great trucker, we found a way to release the brakes and head down the road praising the Lord. We were praising the Lord when the truck seemed to fail and asking Him to help! He was faithful as always.

As we went down the road it came to me that often people are locked up and smoking and do not realize it; or we do not realize why. We may be pulling along a heavy load and it just keeps getting heavier but we keep plugging along. Sometimes we have someone come alongside and try to help but we brush them off. We are locked up and smoking and suffering damage, but we are fine!

I admit, when the truck pulled alongside us I thought maybe he was chewing us out for not getting over sooner, I looked long enough to see the concern on his face and realized we must have a problem. It is good to note also that he did not just tell us to get over and figure it out. He offered advice. We were very glad to know the problem and we became actively involved in finding the fix.

Sadly, sometimes people do not seem to be interested in a fix because they are so fixated on what they want or how they feel. We are in the middle of a mess in our nation and I think each side of this great divide is certain the other side is wrong. If we all would look to God, we would know what is right. Of course if we do not want what God wants that becomes a problem! Lord, help our nation and help the world that you created. You did not create the mess, but you are the solution.

The key here is not to turn away from God. If you have never turned to Him; do it. Those of us who have turned to Him need to be alert and aware when we are locked up and smoking. Those times when we want our way and we want it now and it just keeps harder; maybe we need to look and see if the Holy Spirit is warning us to pull over. It is all joy when we finally release the brakes and roll with God.
