LORD HELP US SEE
They still did not understand the significance of the miracle of the multiplied loaves, for their hearts were hard and they did not believe. (Mark 6:52 NLT)
It may be that the greatest single thing keeping Christians from being and doing all that God intends for us to be and to do is a failure to realize the significance of all that Christ has done for us. Because we do not fully comprehend what He has done, we fail to understand the significance of the things that He calls us to do.
One recent example that I heard was a comment that a person made concerning the “Passion” movie. This person said it was just not his kind of movie. This movie was not intended to be entertainment. It was intended to give us an opportunity to experience the love of Jesus for all of us. Many who have never attended church were moved by this movie. It is sad that many in the church do not realize the significance.
The disciples saw all of the miracles that Jesus did, but somehow they missed the point. They could not seem to tie it all together. It is a fact that no one has tied it all together yet, but we need to at least link together the obvious things that God does in our lives and in the lives of those around us. Doesn’t it make sense that if Jesus could feed that many people with only a little bit of food that He could also walk on the water? If He told them to go across the water, couldn’t they trust Him to see that they would get there?
Another thing that we should note from this passage is that Jesus saw them when they were struggling. This is significant for us to remember. After all, I believe we all have moments where we wonder if God sees what is happening to us and around us. Not only did Jesus see, He went to them. He was there walking on the water, just waiting for them to call. Scripture says that they nearly let Him walk right on by. They should have been calling when they first started struggling, but they did not realize that He would hear them. We on the other hand have heard that He hears when we call. So let’s be sure to call and then expect Him to answer.
Once we begin to see just how faithful God is and take the time to tie the things together, it will build our confidence. Once we begin realize the significance of all that Jesus said and did and how it applies to our life, we should be truly amazed. How did He reach you? Have you pondered that? Or what means is He using to open your eyes? Perhaps He is using this devotion, or many other things. I am continually amazed when I consider all that went on in my life and all the places that God was acting and I did not see it. Truly He works in ways that we do not see. But if we look intently we will see Him there, even in the midst of the storms.
One last thing; we must never underestimate the significance of the things the Lord tells us to do in the name of Jesus. Remember, even a cup of cool water given in His name is significant. Jesus can use the smallest as well as the greatest of things to open people’s eyes. Lord, help us see!
