LORD LORD
“Not everyone who calls out to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. (Matthew 7:21 NLT)
This verse always causes me to pause and pray and then move on. This time however, moving on has been a slow move. Thankfully, it is not my responsibility to judge who is doing the will of God. It is my responsibility to look at me! As always, when I do that, I once again leave the secret things to God.
The thing is, we do not know that we do not know until we know that we don’t know. It is only when we know that we realize the things we didn’t know. That makes perfect sense, right!
Consider when Nicodemus, a teacher of law, came to Jesus in the night. I think he came because he was experiencing something that he could not grasp, but he wanted it. Jesus told him that he must be born again. Again, I think that truth welled up inside him, but he could not wrap his head around it.
I find that life in Christ has a lot of those moments when what we never thought of becomes what we cannot stop thinking about until we know what we did not know for sure. A song that God gave me nearly forty years ago simply said, “For so long I lived without you. Now all I do is think about you. Father won’t you please use me?” To be honest, when the song came, I did not know what I knew, nor what I did not know. But I did know He must have the answers.
It does not bother me to join Paul in saying that I have not yet arrived. I love his plan to leave the past behind and press on.
In my seeking the Lord considering this troubling verse, I am encouraged that with a little consideration it becomes a very encouraging verse. If it causes us to pause and consider our lives; it is a good thing. If we are encouraged to find what the will of God is for our lives; that is a great thing. Considering what God wants is what opens heaven for us.
So, no matter our situation as we enter this verse, in the end is the way to heaven. And with that we can say “Lord, Lord, thank you!”
Now, back to the knowing, not knowing, and what to do with what we do not know! God has promised us that when we do not know we can ask Him. We should ask Him! He has no intention of leaving us troubled and confused. When we discover what we did not know, we should just follow it, or let it go, whatever the case may be. It took a bit for Nicodemus to process what Jesus told him, but in the end, we see that he did openly choose Jesus.
We can all resolve to increase our seeking and our desire to know the will of God. If we do not desire the will of God, it is time to start. It may be that you found out something you did not know. If so, now you do. It may be that you are feeling a need to know Him more. Glory to God. That is feeling to get hooked on. Prayerfully, I have not confused you. If so, ask God to clear things up! Lord Lord! Oh, how I love you Lord.
