LOST AND FOUND
But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn--"not with a physical birth...but a birth that comes from God. (John 1:12-13 NLT)
I am always amazed at the piles of things in the lost and found box. Some, actually most of it is really good stuff. It of course has no idea that it is lost and found. It is just stuff sitting in a box. I was lost before I was found. I had no idea I was lost. Though I was never lost from God’s sight, I was lost from His presence. I just did not know.
I had to realize I was lost before I could appreciate being found. To be honest, there were times when I caught a glimpse of the possibility that I was lost, but then for some reason I was comfortable thinking, “So that is the way it is!” Thank God for His amazing grace! I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.
If we have never seen ourselves as lost; we still are! If we have never seen ourselves as blind, we are dangerously blind. Jesus, who is the light of the world, came into the world but most did not recognize him. His own people who were looking for Him rejected Him. We either receive Him or we reject Him. When Peter stood up and told the people the truth, some of them wanted to kill Him. For others, the truth killed them and as a result they found life.
Today is a trip to the basics. We have either found life or we have not. We have either recognized that we were lost and as result we are found with His new life and very excited about it or we have not and are not. We have either rejoiced in knowing that we can now see or we have not bothered to see ourselves as blind. If we have never seen ourselves as blind, seeing Jesus is no big deal.
If we can take Jesus or leave Him, we have never known Him! If He has not made a difference in our lives then we need to wonder why. What we really need is to die! Yes die to ourselves and what we think we know so that we can enjoy life with Christ Jesus.
So, having said that, we can move on to the fact that just because we figured out we were lost and found the way, does not mean we never lose our way as we journey. We all do at different levels and in different circumstances. Yes, we fail Him.
The good thing is that we are not comfortable when we fail Him. Our genuine love for Him causes us to seek Him and renew our commitment to Him. He makes a difference. And we are grateful!
Has your mind ever wandered when you were driving and the rumble strip along the road snaps you back into reality? I don’t know about you, but I always experience a rush of relief and am thankful to still be on the road. I am so thankful to be on His road and praying you all are too!
