LOVE DOES NOT
Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. (1Corinthians 13:6 NLT)
I had a thought during prayer the other day. I was considering all that God is teaching me as I go through this Love education. As it opens my eyes to all the areas where I need a lot of work, it is also showing me a greater picture of just how loving God is. After all God is love and so he does all this perfectly. My thought was that He knows the very intentions of my heart. He knows my every thought. And still, when I come to Him, He loves me and listens to me, and He answers my prayers. It is a good thing that God is Love.
Just imagine how we would be if we knew exactly what people thought or had said about us. Now, I believe I can honestly say that I have not said anything or thought anything bad about God. But Jesus said that if we have done unto one of the least of these you have done it unto me. No wonder Jesus made sure that when we pray we say, “Forgive us our sins.” Be encouraged by how great God’s love is. Don’t get discouraged over your failures. Just be determined to change. If God loves us this much, we can love others as well.
So why can’t I have things my way. We would all like to have things our way, but love does not demand it to be that way. God has a way that he has planned for us, but He gives us a choice and still loves us. And let’s face it, He is always right. Still He does not demand to have His way. Of course we pay a price and suffer certain consequences when we make wrong choices, but we never forfeit His love. In many instances I can easily give up my way. But I am not certain that I always do it lovingly. To be honest though that part is not the hardest for me. It is the fact that Love is not irritable that derails me in a lot of the other areas.
Love truly is a package. If I give up my way but I am irritated about it then I am not acting in love. If I demand my way I am not acting in love. If I give up my way, and say I told you so when the other way was wrong, I am not acting in love. I don’t need to go through all the other parts of this passage of scripture in order for you to see how they all fit together to make one big word. Love!
Thank God that nothing can separate us from His love. Now if there were only a way that we would never step out of love. I am certain that there is room for improvement in all of us. I am also certain that God is happy to help us in every area that we will submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s face it. If we do not get this kind of love down pat, then according to this chapter of scripture we are of no value whatever. Any good things we do are phony if we don’t do them in love. So should we all just give up? No way! Give in to the truth. We can do this thing. Don’t you feel better already just knowing you want to?
