LOVE HARVESTS
But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here. (John 14:31 NKJ)
It seems to me that Jesus was giving us a glimpse or a key to His relationship with His father when he said, “that the world may know that I love the Father.” He often spoke of His Father’s love for Him and for us, but here He makes the point of saying that He wants the world to know that He loves the Father. Obviously Jesus knew that love drew on the power of God. Because of this, He always knew that His Father was going to do whatever He asked. Jesus completed His mission not out of a sense of duty or obligation but quite simply because He loved God.
With this in mind and pondering how God enjoys us choosing to come to Him in prayer and being distracted as I did it, I also realized that God likes it when we fight our way back through the distractions. Then it hit me that there are many seeds planted in our lives that are just waiting to grow. When we come to God in prayer with this understanding of how God enjoys it, the seeds change. They are no longer seeds that are planted here and there that grow up over time; no, when we come this way, those seeds open up the harvest. Love causes it all to germinate. Now, the seed lands, grows, and instantaneously produces fruit according to His purpose. And of course, it is God who gives seed to the sower.
Can you imagine God’s seed landing on us and producing so fast that even as we sow it, it is reproducing just as quickly? The Bible speaks of the time when those who harvest will overtake those who are planting. I mean, I get this picture of only the choreography of God Himself keeping people from tripping over each other as this goes on and on with bounty coming up right on the heals of the sowers.
The bottom line is that love harvests. Let me give you an example. My grandson once told my wife, his Grammy, “I love you Grammy; you don’t have to buy me a present!” Do you think there was anything that could have kept her from blessing that little guy? Absolutely not!
My friends, love produces a harvest. Love does not require a harvest, but love certainly should not neglect or reject it either. Trust me; it does not bother God if we figure this out! It was His idea. Everything God ever tells us is for our benefit not His. Think about it. What could God possibly ever need that He cannot just speak into existence? The only thing I can think of is our love. He desires our love, because our love releases every promise He has ever made. He loves to perform His word.
There is a harvest, and the same love that produces it, should also expect to reap it. Jesus loved His Father and has never stopped harvesting. So as we love Him, we should expect a harvest. Remember, the Kingdom of God is like a field and His field has treasure everywhere on the way to “The Treasure!”
