LOVE IS THE ROCK
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. (Luke 6:48 NKJ)
Jesus made this reference to the person who hears what He says and does it. In order to do this we must have a foundation to “do” from. Notice that Jesus was clear that it was on a rock and not many rocks. If you build on many rocks, they may shift. That is why God is clear that Jesus is the one true rock. If we build our faith on the premise that Jesus is one rock of many, how solid can the foundation be? This is yet another reason that loving God is so important. True love will branch from the one rock, but there is no way that any relationship can survive many loves or the allowance for many loves.
For instance, most would agree that when people say that they have an “open” relationship and that each person can have others that they love, they probably do not have real love for anyone they are involved with. It is just a convenience. Well, in the same way, we will never experience the things Jesus promised if we treat our relationship with Him like a convenience to be used when needed.
Love transforms God’s word into promises for our lives. Without this love, His word is more on the order of possibilities that may occasionally take place if God is so inclined. In many circles, they have even removed the realm of possibility by declaring that what Jesus did, ended when Jesus was crucified or shortly thereafter. Have you ever wondered why people would think Jesus came and built such a house with no intention of maintaining it?
Do you see that? Loving God is the rock solid foundation that we build on. Jesus promised to live in and dwell with us and He keeps His promises. However, we all know that even with Christ in us, our houses can tumble. Thankfully, Jesus is able to restore us. However, when a house is built on the rock of loving God, that house is in position to flourish in the courts of the Lord.
When our love for God becomes unshakeable nothing can stand against us. No matter what comes up our first action is to stand and look to the one we love. We then are able to see whatever ever it is through His eyes. We do not have to try to understand, because we are looking to Him for understanding. We do not try to fight it alone, because we know the battle is the Lords. We don’t carry the burden; we take His yoke upon us. We do not entertain hopelessness or helplessness, because He is our help and the guarantee of the things we hope for.
Truly, loving God is the foundation that opens the door to the life that Jesus came to provide for us and through us.
