LOVE KNOWS

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord have not forsaken those who seek You. (Psalm 9:10)

So far, I have yet to meet the person who loved the Lord and then received salvation. Most of us started out understanding that God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us so we could be saved. By the grace of God our eyes opened and we admitted that we needed a savior. It is a great day when it all falls together and we receive that gift.

I don’t know about you, but in my case there was some assembly required. What I mean is that for me it was like a model air plane. There was a beautiful picture on the box, but when I opened it all the pieces needed to be assembled and I wanted what I saw in the picture. Now after many years I understand a lot more than I did, but I am still working it out and getting all the pieces in the right place. Much of the assembly is complete, but there is still work being done on the computer and hydraulic systems.

In this process, there have been some big pieces that went together quickly, and some that have taken more time. Some things that seemed so small turned out to be very important in making other things work. And of course, there have been some things that I thought I knew, only to find out I did not know them like I should.

When it comes to loving God, we all know that He started the love in motion when He loved us first! And we have all worked at the commandments with loving God being the first one. We have all struggled with whether or not we love God right or not. We have probably all done our best to imitate others who seem to love Him better. Do we need to find a way to cry and wash His feet with our tears? How about if we sell everything we have a give it away; that might prove we love God? Maybe if we read our bible more pray longer; something will surely prove it!

Well, I have come to the conclusion that any or all of these things can most certainly be the product of our love for God, but they should not be considered proof. God did not send Jesus to die for us in order to prove His love. He said He loved us and His Word is always enough. He sent Jesus because He loved us and this was the way that would allow us to love Him.

Love quite simply knows. Those who know the name of the Lord will trust Him. We know when we love God. God is love! And when we know, we are free to be in love with Him. We do not have to prove a thing because we know that He knows and because we know He knows we know that He is faithful and we trust Him. As our love for Him grows, our confidence in His love grows exponentially. God knew He loved us and He knew He put in us the capacity to love Him back the same way. Love will make it all fly!
