LOVE LOVE LOVE
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19)
Love is what transforms us. Our minds are renewable when love moves everything else aside. Obedience is desirable when love has the proper place in our hearts. God is love and love makes a way when it seems there is no way. Yes, we must become lovers of God. If we love then we desire to obey. Love chooses His way.
When we try and try and fail, it is because we are trying to obey because we know we should obey, but sometimes our hearts are just not in it. Love can and will set us free!
I have often shared that my first revelation of God brought fear. I think it was a healthy fear because it caused me to seek and to find all I could about God. I knew I had encountered the power of God and the presence of God. It was a combination of a mountain that I could not touch and savior that touched me; if that makes sense. I did not know for sure that He was talking to me, but I thought He might be. I knew that I needed to be forgiven but I thought I needed to find out what I needed to do to make it happen. My conclusion was that I was in trouble and I needed to get out of trouble and God seemed to be the path out.
It was when I began to sing to the Lord that I began to find peace. I began to find love. When I sang, “Lord, here I am on my knees to you; begging your forgiveness and your love so true;” love made an entry that I did not really understand. It was a beginning! Thirty-seven years later I am still seeking and finding more understanding that love makes a way.
If I struggle and of course I do, it is when I fail to love. We all struggle when we allow selfishness and pride to slide into our lives. It is when we want what we know we should not want, but we want it anyway that our peace slips away. We see it drifting away but we stubbornly hold on to what we want.
The bible tells us that when we know what is right and don’t do it, it is sin. Our ability to rationalize and justify increases as we let love move aside so that we can have our own way. There is an old song that says to God, “Have your own way Lord.” When our love is strong, His way is our desire. When love fades, we can change to I’ll have my own way and get back to you when it is convenient, and we do just that.
We run out of energy when we try to make our way on information only. Information only, is like the law. We have no legal standing; our requirements are all in loving God. In order to love, we must know love and receive love. God is love. Love is what we need to succeed!
