LOVING JESUS
...for the Father Himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God. (John 16:27 NLT)
What a thought that is. God loves me because I love Jesus and believe that Jesus came from God. Jesus rescued us and God loves us because we took Jesus hand. Our believing in Jesus enhances God’s credibility; not that His credibility is in question but He does use us to present Himself to others in a way that they can best understand. By simply loving and believing Jesus we become heroes of the faith and God treats us accordingly.
It is not a duty distant love that God desires. We don’t want a distant love from Him! We want a doting, dedicated, and longing love. He desires the same.
As I read this scripture I asked myself about my love for God. Yes, I love Jesus. I love God. I love Holy Spirit. There is however room for improvement; sometimes more than others.
It does not cause me to feel condemned when I realize this. I feel fortunate to know and see that I need to improve. I feel especially blessed knowing that God is more than happy to help me grow in the grace and knowledge of Him.
Just as it takes time and effort to nurture earthly relationships, so it is with loving God. If I never think about my wife or about loving her, the relationship is not going where it should be. If we never really think about God or loving God the same is true.
I lived for a long time with no real thoughts about God. I thought going to church once in a while was sufficient. Even in church, I don’t recall a lot of thinking about God. I could sing the songs with no real emotion about Him. I would hear the story of Jesus death with no real emotion. After all, I also knew that God raised Him. At least that was the story.
What a difference it made when I started to know, love, and appreciate Him. Some days I feel like I am still starting. There is just so much more to God than we know. I do not know anyone who says they know God that thinks they know or love Him enough.
Just as Paul said he had not yet arrived he was thankful to be able to keep on pressing. He was willing to leave behind what he thought he knew if it in any way interfered with what he could know.
This is a day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in Him. Make every day a new day to know and love Him more. Oh what an amazing Lord. What a mighty God He is and how great is His love for you and me. Take a moment and consider these things. Have a blessed day with your Father. Happy Father’s Day.
