MADE ALIVE
For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. (Colossians 1:13-14)
All the ingredients for life have been put in us. We are sort of like a cake all mixed up and ready to be baked. We still have the choice of putting it in the oven and baking it.
Will I die? When it comes to the life that is in Christ Jesus, I realize that I must choose to put to death those things that quench His life in me.
Yes, I receive Christ. Yes I have experienced so much through Christ. Will I go on? Will I always choose life? Will I continue to die so that the life I live will bring Glory to God?
We have, after all, been born into a new life. Like little children, we grow, and as we grow there are new things happening continually. In our lives with Christ, the world still goes on around us and we continue to come to new things and choices.
Yesterday, Vikki and I went somewhere that we had never been before. The directions seemed obvious for the largest part of the trip but right toward the end the turn was not clearly marked. This resulted in quite a detour. We kept calling for clarification and ultimately made it to the right place. We turned and turned and called and called. We did not just give up. We had a destination in mind.
We must always keep our destination in mind when it comes to Christ. If we do, then we will keep calling. We will keep seeking. We will keep finding. We won’t give up. We will follow Paul’s advice and press toward the mark to our destination.
Along the way, there are so many prizes. God tells us to remember the benefits. Yes, we must keep our eye on the prize.
So back to my first question; will I die? When I come to those places in the road and my self gets in the way; will I die? Will I let go of my preference and choose the Life God calls me to.
Jesus told Peter about the death he would suffer and the same man who recently denied Jesus three times, had no problem with the new plan. Something changed. There was a shift.
We too have many things in our lives where shifts take place. Will we shift? Will we die to self? Will we do whatever we must so that we enjoy all the newness of life even it looks like we are losing something? Do we understand that in order to live we must be willing to die and conform to the way the truth and the life that is in Christ? Sometimes it is the little attitudes that cost us far more that we realize. The key is being determined that nothing is going to keep us from our destination.
