MAINTAIN THE MAIN THING
I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. (Psalm 71:23 NLT)
Where can we go from His presence? Where ever we go, He is there. The question is why would we want to get out of His presence? The answer is that there is no good reason. The truth is we do a lot of things for no good reason. The important thing is that we make a conscious decision to maintain the main thing and to make the main thing our love and relationship with God.
Sometimes we are wise like little children and immediately run to God for comfort. Sometimes are not so wise. But if we have made Him our main thing, we will recover and be restored.
Scripture tells us of the love of God that has been given to us in the Holy Spirit and how that love will simply spread if we keep ourselves in that love. This is why is so important that we maintain our love for God.
There are so many other things that seem so important but in truth can become a distraction instead. We can become obsessed by good works of many forms that are not bad in themselves, unless they replace our intake and overflow of the love of God.
All of these things are the natural overflow of His love. I recently visited with a young man who told me he used to come to chapel and did not believe what I said. He wondered why he was even there, but each time he would come. He was trying to figure out why I loved God so much and why it seemed like I had such joy. He decided he wanted that joy, so He called out to God and God met him in a wonderful way. Now he cannot keep himself from sharing that love.
I was not trying to produce joy. I was not doing anything but sharing how good God is, and out of that God did what only God can do. He makes me happy and seeing the result of what He does amazes me. I cannot tell you for sure how many men and women young and old who I have sat across from and been told the same thing. Each time I am amazed, because I know God has done this.
There are so many things about God that amaze me. Each time a person shares their story with me, I am able to assure them that God did it and that He planned for this day before they were ever born.
The main thing is to love God with all of our heart. The deeper we go in that love, the more He will overflow. The overflow is great and beneficial, but it is not the main thing. Feel free to just love God. Keep loving God more and more. Love Him all the time. As you do, you will notice springs in the desert and smoother straighter roads. Yes, maintain the main thing. Love God!
