MAKE IT LAST
I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until He completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again. (Philippians 1:6 ERV)
There is no doubt that God is able to do what He promises; the question is do we want it to last. I was thinking about this as I considered all the things God has afforded to us. When we recently discussed the things we can do in and receive from Christ, I was reminded of His words to me long ago telling me, “You can, but you don’t have to.”
God empowers us, but He does not make us. It is up to us to use the power supply and make it last. We don’t earn anything; we simply use what He has given us. One of my first prayers was, “Oh God, do not let me go back!” I really did not know what I had, I only knew it was better that where I was before. I knew without a doubt that there was no high like the Most High! Nothing could compare, and yet I had barely scratched the surface.
I knew one thing, and that was that I wanted this to last. I wanted to make it work. The more I consider this, the more I see the need on a daily basis to make it last. In order to make it last, we need to apply His truth, promises, and requirements in every situation. We are fortunate that we can be lubricated by the oil of the Holy Spirit. He is right there for us to guide us into all truth.
Have you ever noticed that the smallest things can come at us and irritate us to the point of explosion? By the grace of God, we can turn those little things into priceless pearls if we will. Yes God is able to complete the good work He has begun if we will only use the tools He has given us.
We have been saved by grace and offered the power of grace to go ahead and finish it. The question is, how badly to we want it to last. Many fall short simply because they just want the last part. You know; heaven when we die. I have always thought that will be great, but for now it is the least part. Don’t misunderstand me, I look forward to seeing Him face to face, but right now, I enjoy Him here. I enjoy seeing Him do more that I can hope or imagine. I enjoy His peace in storms. I enjoy Him and want that to last until I enjoy Him more. However, I am coming to understand that He wants us to enjoy Him more and more here.
Jesus gave us the keys to the Kingdom and the seeds to make it last. The apostles scattered those seeds and God has watered and watered those seeds. The harvest is plentiful, we just need to gather it in. He gives seed to the sower and we determine what we will do with it.
Faith compels us to good works. Good works strengthen our faith. We have a friend in Jesus who by the Holy Spirit encourages us to make it last. Use His gifts in every situation to make it last. You do want it to last; don’t you? Of course you do.
