MAKING ADJUSTMENTS
Then Jesus said, "He is talking to you now--"I am the Messiah." (John 4:26 ERV)
This statement by Jesus to the woman required a great deal of adjustment on her part and upon the part of all she told. So it is with us; in order to maintain our position in Christ we are often required to adjust our personal thinking and positioning.
If we follow the movements of Jesus, we often see Him headed somewhere and then heading somewhere else. We hear Him say that it is not time for something and then suddenly it is time just as at the wedding where He performed the first recorded miracle. There was also the time when he told his brothers to go on ahead because it was not time for Him to come, but then it was time.
Jesus was guided by the Holy Spirit and always did what His Father said. He was not bound by anything except His desire to please God. Even what He said, did not hinder Him from adjusting his position and going the way God that told Him.
Paul also experienced redirection from the Lord. At times he desired to go to a place but the Spirit stopped Him. Then the Holy Spirit would lead him to places that from all practical thinking were bad places. Paul’s stand on this was that he had learned to be content in all circumstances. The presence of God provided the contentment.
If we are going to experience all that our position in Christ provides for us, then we are going to need to learn to make those adjustments. We do not compromise the truth we follow the truth and Jesus is the truth.
Paul made a great statement when he was talking to the folks on a soon to be sinking ship. He said, “I believe God.” We must always choose to believe God. There is no doubt that our world seems to be teetering on a point of extremes. We have extreme opportunities to rise or to crash. Evil seems to be on the rise, but really the source of all evil exposed himself long ago and Jesus crushed him.
We can choose to fear and tremble or position ourselves and stand. Jesus made the way for us to stand. We will need to adjust to get beyond what is past in our lives. We will need to adjust daily to what God wants.
This is a day that the Lord has made and with each new day, there is a plan. We are foolish if we think that we know better than God. Just as we might need to change direction to avoid hitting something on the road ahead, so might God require us to adjust so that we are in perfect position to reveal His glory.
If something behind is holding us back, we need let it go. If something ahead is causing us dread, we must look beyond it by the promise of God. The only way to live as more than conquerors is to adjust and trust.
