MAKING REQUESTS

Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify you. (John 17:1)

Lord, I want to bring you glory! Jesus said that eternal was that we might know God. Truly, the longer I know Him the more I want to know Him and the more I do want others to know Him. I have to admit that I have a bit of righteous indignation that arises when people push God out to heaven. I try to keep it righteous anyway. I admit I require a lot of help from God at times to keep in check.

I grew up with God in heaven. I mean, that was where God was if He was. Since He was there, in a child’s mind that was where I would see Him. My night time prayer was about Him keeping my soul and if I died that He would take it. It is not a terrible prayer by any means, but still God was in heaven.

Back in the beginning of knowing Jesus a little, I was singing a song that posed the question; what good does it to love Jesus, if you’re the only one you let know. If you love Him, you’ve got to show Him. God out and spread the word. Tell everybody the story; the best one that they’ve ever heard. Of course, it is not great news to everyone, but it sure was the best news I ever heard.

Philippians 4 is where we are told not to worry; just pray. As long as God remains so far out there, the idea of comfort is really out there. However, if He is in with me and in me and I know His presence; that is great news. When we are reminded by Holy Spirit to make our request to God and we move into the peace of God. That reminder might come directly from inside or it may be that God brings someone along side; either way, it is God.

Too often I hear people drawing close and then someone comes along and pushes God back out to a heavenly perspective. You know the idea that if we are just patient we will die looking forward to heaven where everything will be all better! There is no doubt that heaven will be all better, but Jesus said that He came so we could have abundant life now in this life and in the end eternal life.

We need to open vessels so that Christ can dwell richly in us and bring glory to God through us. Remember, Christ in us is our hope of glory. When we make our requests known to God and then allow the peace of God that passes understanding to keep our heart and mind on Christ, then through Christ we prove that the word of God is powerful.

Lord may you be glorified in the earth. May Jesus shine through every one of His children? May we all be wise stewards of your presence in us and glorify you as Lord of heaven and earth! I know now that you were right there with me when I was child. You were not far away at all. Every child should know that you are the best friend anyone could ever have.
