MEASURE CAREFULLY
"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. For others will treat you as you treat them. Whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged.
(Mathew 7:1 & 2)
This is always an interesting topic. People outside the church feel like people inside are always judging. One group of Christians wants to try and judge another group of Christians. One person in a particular body wants to judge another person in their own church family. And of course people within the same family will judge each other. You know, the husband may think the wife is the spiritual problem in the house or the other way around.
Well, Jesus said we should stay away from that. As a little added information He said that we would be the ones to determine what kind of microscope would be used on us. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think any of us would look that good under a microscope.
Now I know that we have to make judgments for our own lives, as to what is right and wrong for us, but we should stay away from dissecting the relation someone else has with Christ.
We all have a tendency to think that if something bugs us, then it must be that outside thing that is the problem. We would be wise to check our own hearts and attitudes first. Or as Jesus put it, check the log in your eye before you go after the splinter in someone else’s eye.
I have experienced a physical example in my life that illustrates this. For years and years, I have experienced a problem with a skin irritation. This started long before I was saved and since I have known Christ I have prayed often to be rid of it. For a long time we thought certain laundry detergents were the cause. So my dear wife cautiously washed my clothes in an attempt to remedy this problem. But every now and then trouble would arise, and I was certain that we had made a mistake with the wash. You can imagine whom I thought must have erred but even when I did it myself it did not help!
One day the Lord gave that lovely wife of mine wisdom, and she went checking on the Internet about food allergies and discovered that some certain preservatives could cause this exact thing. So we discovered that the problem was coming from the inside and not the outside. Now if I am careful of what I put in my body, all is well.
Many Christians have swallowed so many judging pills that they have little if any joy. They get irritated at others, when really the problem is inside them. David said, “Search me oh God.” This is what I am trying to get done in my life. May God help us to love people into His Kingdom. May our joy be contagious, and may our eyes be clear.
