MESSAGE IN THE MIRROR

For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. (James 1:23-24 NLT)

A man looked in the mirror one day and saw a beard. He had not intended to grow a beard, it just happened. Others along the way noticed and commented; some good and some not so good but it did not affect the man. Before long there it was right in the mirror. Still, it was not a plan to grow a beard, it just happened. It took a little time, but there was no denying it was there.

Although that parable is on my face, as I considered it, I saw much of what is happening in our world, the church, and our society. What we see did not happen overnight, but it is still what we are seeing.

The beard on my face came from a day of not shaving and another day of too many things going on, and after a couple of days it was going to take even more time to fix, and one thing led to another. One person mentioned that I was ugly which made me smile and inspired me! My wife made it clear that she did not like it. Another couple people did like it and others wondered what it was about. My answer was still that I did not grow it, I just did not do anything to stop it.

The church has watched a lot of ugly take place and did their best, or not, depending on the church to keep from being infected. Unfortunately, not being infected does not keep us from being affected. Because of this, many have ended up with a beard. They did not intend to approve abortion, or immoral lifestyles, or gender confusion, or any of the wokeness, but if we neglect taking a stand for long enough, we will just end up using one excuse or another for allowing it.

Suddenly we are looking and seeing the reality. Once we see it, we either make excuses for it or we defend it with things that at one time, we never would have considered, or we fix it!

I can fix my beard easily, and I probably will when I get around to it. When I do it, is up to me. The same is true when it comes to repairing the damage that has been done by all the nonsense that is a result of turning away from God.

Has our country lost the blessing of God? I hope not! But I could not blame Him. Still, we have a promise from God to heal our land, but we must take a stand to do that. We cannot neglect our walk with God, nor can we sit idly by and not say anything when there is an opportunity to speak. The truth will offend some people, but it will also set some free.

Scripture tells us that some people have been taken captive by satan unaware. The problem is what they do when they are made aware! If you look, you can see that many are just intentionally going along with things that must scream at them when they look in the mirror. My prayer is that they turn from the wickedness and come to the Lord. Unfortunately, many have just been swept up in mocking God. This comes from neglecting such a great salvation that God offers to all who will call. May we all look in the mirror and make sure we are not neglecting and then let’s help others.
