MUSTS

You must pay close attention to what they (the prophets) wrote. You must realize that prophets did not speak on their own initiative but that they spoke from God. You must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:19 & 20; 3:18 NLT)

It does not take much observation today to realize that our world is in a bit of a quandary. With billionaires going broke and committing suicide and everyone trying to figure out what in the world happened and wondering what in the world to do, it is nice to know that there is a place of refuge.

When Peter preached that first message, all the people wanted to know what they must do to be saved. People today are looking for someone to tell them what they must do to survive. Some are simply expecting the government to take care of them and others have other ideas and are promoting those ideas as the only way. Still others do not see any way to survive.

Well, I know there is a place of peace where we are whole, complete, and lacking nothing. A place of health, prosperity, protection, and direction that is free from fear. That place of course is in Christ. I realize this sounds foolish to some hard to understand for others, but all the same He is the place of refuge. There are some musts involved in trusting in that place and Peter pointed out some important ones.

Peter was very certain of what he was telling them, because he had in fact heard the voice of God. Hearing God’s voice instantly confirmed to him that the prophets had been hearing God all along. He understood that their words were like a shining lamp in a dark place. He also understood that what they spoke could have come from only one place and that place was God. If we are going to access the place of refuge, then we must believe every word of the Bible has in fact come from God.

Peter then goes on to tell us that there will be false teachers and scoffers and all sorts of distractions. He also reminds us that most certainly the end will come and it will catch people totally unaware. However, we do not need to fear that nor do we need to be moved by people who say that God is not going to do anything. We can be thankful and reassure people that He is just patient because He does not want anyone to perish.

I know only too well that there are a multitude of people who are far better people than I was who still do not know Christ. There is no way that I could ever hope that they be left behind just so I could get out of here. I love it here in this place with Christ. We have the opportunity to live peaceful lives pure and blameless in His sight. (2 Pet. 3:14)

If we are fully committed to these truths, we can be sure that God is true and in turn we will know that everything else we need is in Him. We will know that the greatest must of all is to grow and the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is the place of refuge and victory. He is the answer to all the questions people are asking.
