MY CUP OF BLESSING

Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. I am praying to you because I know you will answer O God. (Psalm 16:5; & 17:6 NLT)

God tells us in His word that the truth is revealed line upon line and precept upon precept. As each of us grows in the Lord, it becomes thought upon thought and revelation upon revelation. We must remember that we do not leave behind one part of our growth as we move on to the next. For example we don’t leave love behind in order to move on to miracles. We don’t forget about forgiveness to move into deliverance. All of the truths of God work together and build for greater blessing in our lives.

As we look at leaving things behind or new beginnings we don’t leave behind the foundations of our faith or stones that have built it to this point. No, we keep those things and leave behind only those things that hinder us from drawing closer to God.

Recognizing that God alone is our inheritance and that He is our true cup of blessing opens the door to praying with confidence and declaring with David that we come to God because we know that He will answer. When we know that He will answer then we do not doubt that no matter what mess may surround us God will find a way to bless us. Confidence in God will cause us to look for His ways as we search for His blessings. The key in this is looking for His blessing, not what we consider to be the blessing, but God’s blessing. He blesses in ways that we miss if we are not looking for them. Sometimes correction may be the greatest blessing in a situation. We may not like the idea, but if it removes things that have clogged up our relationship with God, then it is truly a blessing.

Remember, He alone is our treasure. The Living Bible says in Psalm 17:15, “as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us.” So then is it wrong to be wealthy? Certainly not! David was extremely wealthy, but he knew that wealth was not enough to be content. Many would say they would love to have the opportunity to experience it so they could join David in saying that wealth is okay but God is better. I pray we all have that opportunity, and at the same time I would pray that the riches would not deceive us. For there is great responsibility in being rich and being able to handle it. I think that Christians who have been greatly blessed financially have an awesome responsibility. I also think that it takes great faith to continue to declare that God alone is everything when they can have anything material that they desire.

Still, the blessing of the Lord alone makes us rich. It is from that knowledge that God will build and add all the other things to us. Have confidence in this fact, and begin to imagine what you would do to build the Kingdom of God as He gives you the tools to do it. Start with what you have and He will add what He has. Just remember that it is in Him that you have true contentment and riches. This year is a year to grow in all God’s blessings.
