MY MASTER
I said the Lord, "You are my master! All the good things I have are from you." (Psalm 16:2)
My first thought when I read this scripture is, “Do I live like You are my master Lord?” Am I doing everything the way I should? Am I good enough? But then I thought, “Wait a minute, salvation is a gift. There are no works that are good enough!” This verse is simply stating a fact. If I turned to the Lord and accepted His free gift, then He is my master.
A master is somewhat like a shepherd. The master has everything, He provides everything, and the servant simply follows the master’s plan. The master provides all the good things that a servant enjoys. So we are not servants in the slavery sense, but rather as one’s who are in the employ of a most generous benefactor.
On television we see programs now where people will do just about anything for the opportunity to have the dream job. They think working for a certain person will complete their lives. There is no doubt that it would be beneficial to win the game and get the job, but will that truly make life complete?
How many people win the lottery and have it turn out to be truly a good experience? How many people have what someone else considers a dream job and a dream life, only to die lonely and often at their own hand? How many people who think they control their own destiny and do not have to answer to anyone, end up completely out of control?
Explain to me how people with more money than they could ever spend could end up robbing other people of their retirement. Most certainly, we do not wrestle in this life with flesh and blood. There are powers and principalities and spiritual wickedness in high places that are competing for the souls of men.
Every person has a master whether they realize it or not. True peace and contentment come only from declaring the Lord our master, but don’t get the idea that the battle ends when we do that. We still have to exercise the power and the authority that the Lord gives us and that is what the fight of faith is all about. Our victory is there for the taking in every situation. Jesus came that we might have abundant life. He has opened the eyes of our understanding, so that we can recognize life and death. He makes it clear that both are present, and He tells us to choose life.
So rest assured that if you have asked Jesus to be your savior, then He is your Lord and master. Every good thing is yours in Christ Jesus. He has, like a good shepherd, spread a table before us for He knows the enemy is always present trying to get us to follow a different master. But our master is the one and only true God. He is all-powerful and able to do abundantly above and beyond all that we could hope or ask. So shout loud and shout it often. LORD YOU ARE MY MASTER!
