NAME GAME

And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have Go’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

First, let me say that this is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

This is also a day of the big game and the day before signs and signals of love happen or do not happen around the world. So, there is a whole lotta shakin goin on! One man made national news by placing a 4.5 million dollar bet on the Bengals. No doubt there will be someone matching that bet on the Rams. In case you do not know, those are the teams in the Super Bowl. It is a celebration football game, just in case you are not familiar with this topic.

It is a big game! There are a lot of names that will be celebrated, and some will be berated, but still there is one name that is above every name, and that name is Jesus! My prayer has been that everyone will find themselves drawn to the name of Jesus. The game will end, and nothing will change the outcome. It will be history! Jesus however will always be now and forever! He will never end! Even though people may try to make Him out as a story out of history, He still is and always will be Lord.

One thing that the game has in common with the Name is that nothing will change the outcome of what God has testified. If we have the Son, we have life. If we do not have the Son, we do not have life.

It is great that we have things that bring us joy. God gave us emotions. Celebrate life. He gave us life. Just remember to lift up the name of Jesus!

Like I said, for football fans, the Bengals and the Rams are the major chants and signs of the day. I am sure we will see a John 3:16 sign or two as well, to remind us that God loved us so much that He gave His Son, Jesus, to die for us. This makes His name the name above all names.

In this game, we will see people sacrificing their bodies to make plays. We will no doubts see some helped off of the field; prayerfully none who are taken off on the cart, but still, they will be giving all they have to give. Jesus gave His all. He really gave His all! He gave His actual life. He died so we could win!

Roman’s twelve tells us to present ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. Before Christ, the people brought sacrifices to God so they could be forgiven. It was inconvenient to get a sheep or goat or calf or a couple birds together, but it was not really impossible. It is also easy to just let Jesus be our sacrifice. We can know the story. We can go through the motions without really being a fan, but it is a different thing to present ourselves as a living sacrifice.

He gives us the strength to resist temptations; if we want to resist that is. We can be transformed if we will submit ourselves to His transforming presence. It requires commitment on our part. Enjoy the game. Remember the Name. Tomorrow remember to love those you are committed to. Love God every day!
