NEGLECTED TREASURE

One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple. (Ps.27:4

I was praising the Lord with my guitar this morning and since this is one of my favorite scriptures I sang it to Him. As I finished this verse, God very clearly said in my heart, “why not now?” I knew instantly that I had neglected to grasp the now of this scripture. I had always looked at it like I was going make sure I did everything I could in this lifetime to insure that I would be able to sit at His feet for all eternity.

After this, it became clear why God had been speaking to me concerning neglected treasure. This is only one of thousands of promises that God has give us that He intends to be present promises not future promises. With our original measure came all of this treasure! How much of it do we neglect? What do we miss, just because we do not see or understand what God wants us to understand?

No wonder He speaks so often about the need for us to get understanding. No wonder He speaks of wisdom and what wisdom can do for us. No wonder He said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to them that believe.” We cannot believe what we do not know. We cannot know what we cannot understand and we cannot understand without the revelation of the Holy Spirit. We will not get understanding if we do not seek it for ourselves.

No matter how well one person understands something, they cannot pass that on unless the other person is willing to receive it. God gives understanding to those who seek so that they can share it with others. It is up to each person to walk in the fullness of God for themselves. So the first thing that we all must understand is that all of what God has is for all who will believe now!

We all must leave eternity to God and live in Christ now. Too many are willing to leave eternity to God and not bother to walk in Him now. Personally, I do not have enough faith to believe that I could skip walking with Christ now and hope to see Him in eternity. People who are trusting a church or a doctrine to get them a sweet by and by are surely missing a lot now, and may miss eternal life. That is God’s call, not mine. My call is to know Him, love Him, and share Him!

So what have we missed because we never called? What promises have we simply neglected? I heard a report recently that someone said we can only ask God for small things now, and that we should not expect big things from God. I just don’t understand how such a big God can be limited to small things. How will God get glory in the earth if He is limited to stuff that is no big deal? I think that is neglecting the truth of God’s word. I think we all know it is possible to sincerely love someone and still neglect them. Let’s all resolve not to neglect God or His promises. The treasure is ours; let’s put it to good use, all for the glory of God.
