NEVER AGAIN

"This is your lot, the portion of your measures from Me," says the Lord, "Because you have forgotten Me and trusted in falsehood." (Jeremiah 13:25 NKJ)

Have you ever said, “Never again,” only to have it happen again? I think it is safe to say that we have all had that experience at one time or another. When I read this scripture I wrote a note in my Bible stating that I was determined to never again forget God or trust in falsehood and asked the Holy Spirit to help me because I know I will need it.

Well since then my promise keeps coming back to my attention. Yes the Holy Spirit is faithful to work especially when we ask Him specifically to help us in an area. As I continued to ponder this it became very clear to me just how obviously important this little key is to standing up in our faith and standing for the promises of God.

God was pleading with His people to see the error of their ways so that they would turn to Him and be healed. He was longing to pour out His promised blessings upon them. He never lost sight of His desire to make them an example to the nations of what it was like to walk in the favor of God.

If only we will remember the true character of God, we will declare without any doubt or reservation that He is good and His mercy endures forever. We will cry out for our nation and the world and know that God most certainly hears us.

Not only that, but we will declare His promises and stand on them until we see them fulfilled because we will not forget God and we will not trust in falsehood. We know that God is true. He is not just true sometimes; He is true at all times.

He is true to His Word. He is true to His Character. When He says this is your lot because you have forgotten Me, and then says, “Will you not be made clean,” He is saying to turn from your lot and I will clean you. He is not saying “Oh I can’t wait to smash you,” He is saying, “I want to dash your enemies against a rock.” Our enemies are the powers of darkness who seek to steal, kill, and destroy us. Those powers cannot stand against us if we refuse to trust in falsehood and stand on the truth.

God wants you sick and defeated; that is a falsehood. God is for you sometimes and against you other times; that is a falsehood. It does not really matter what you say or do, God does what He wants; that is a falsehood. To believe things like this reveals just how little we know of the character and the personality of God or that we have forgotten what we once knew. We all know just how easy it is to lose our footing and begin to entertain falsehood, but recognizing this and determining to never do it again and asking the Holy Spirit to warn us at the first sign of it, will go a long way in enabling us to stand up straight on our faith feet. “Never again” is possible with Christ.
