NEVER STOP TRUSTING
This is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God. Let us cling to Him and never stop trusting Him. (Hebrews 4:14 NLT)
That place of rest that God promises sure sounds like a good deal doesn’t it? But you may say that you have done everything you know to do to get to it and it just must not be available to you. You feel like you must be the one exception to the promises of God. The enemy even works to convince you that you must have some deep sin that needs to be revealed before you can get your rest. Other people who sincerely try to help you may even say things like, it is your lack of faith, or some sin in your family or some other weird thing that keeps you from that rest. Let me ask you a question. Don’t you think that if that was the problem God would tell you? And really, we have the promise in God’s word that tells us that through Christ and His blood we have been cleansed of all sin. David asked God to cleanse him of secret sins, the ones he did not even know about.
Since this is all true, what should we do? We should cling to Jesus and never stop trusting Him. That is simple enough isn’t it? Yes, I know it is much easier to say than it is to do. Or then again, maybe it is not so difficult. Scripture tells us that when we have done everything we know to do in order to stand we should keep on standing on the truth of God’s Word. In other words, the more impossible it looks the more we should trust. The more impossible it looks the more we should begin to anticipate an even greater victory. Why? Because God is faithful to His word, that’s why.
Did you know that it is possible to be completely submitted to God and still bound by the devil? We can love God with all of our heart, praise and worship Him, and desire to please only Him and still be bound. How can that be possible? Well, God’s word says to submit totally unto God and resist the devil and he will flee. Some folks have the idea that if we get saved and say we love God that puts an end to demonic activity. I am sorry to say that coming to God has a tendency to really get the devils attention and he begins to make every effort to steal everything God offers to us. So you see, it is possible for us to decide to follow Jesus in every way. We can take up the fruit of the spirit and fight our flesh. We can manage an outward appearance of self-control and still not be experiencing the Lords’ rest. What we are doing is fighting our flesh in our own strength and it will wear us out for sure.
We must remember to do all that the Word of God tells us to do. We must not only submit to God, we must let the devil have the old one two right up along the side of his head. We need to declare to Him what God has said. We need to let him know that we have figured out his plan and tell him what God’s plan is. I am not suggesting that we spend a lot time talking to the enemy I am just saying we should let him know that we know He is defeated because we have the promises of God. Never stop trusting.
