NEW ADDRESS NEW SOURCE

So let us try as hard as we can to enter God's place of rest. (Hebrews 4:11a ERV)

I have found it to be beneficial to try and remember to always ask God about things. When I do it is beneficial. When I don’t the opposite of course is true. The good that comes from not, is being reminded why it best to seek Him. When I wake at odd hours I try to always set my mind on God because I really want to go back to sleep. This week I awoke at 4:11 one morning and the number was familiar. When I asked the Lord, He reminded me that my mailing address was once Box 411, but it is not my address anymore. Later in the week I was reminded that 411 also used to be the number we dialed for information.

When we come to know Christ, we are given a new address as well as a new source of information. We start out really having no idea what or where the new address is and often times we do not even take a look at it, even though we are told it is a great place. We see advertisements all the time of great and exotic places to travel to, and often these are the things folks dream of. God offers us a perfect place, a place of true rest and we are too busy to give it much attention.

This is why the Word of God in Hebrews encourages us to put in some effort to get to this great place. Great things are worth working for and this great place is a gift from God that only requires our love, trust, and faith. Of course we know that all of those things take way more effort than they should.

Just as my mailing address is no longer the same, neither is my life address. Any mail that is sent to me at the 411 address is quickly tossed, because whoever sent it really does not know me and it is junk mail for sure. In the same way, once we are in Christ, there will still be old mail, old life temptations, and old life invitations, but they are not for us.

Probably the most difficult thing for people is when they want to change addresses without changing sources of information. The idea of God is good, but what about all those things that we experienced, and what about all the things people say? There are a multitude of things that seem like good excuses not to totally trust God. Some folks even use the bible to try and keep others from God and sadly people buy it.

That is why our source must be Holy Spirit who knows the truth that makes us free. He has come to help us separate the truth and the fiction. He helps us see that we only receive the mail sent to our new address. He reminds us of the prize and the promises. He sustains us. He will help us to that place of rest in all things. The rest is always there for us. It is our new address. If we want it, all we need to do is filter our information source down until God is our only search. Strive for the One who is above all things.
