NOAH
Be fruitful and multiply, and repopulate the earth. (Genesis 9:7 NLT)
I wrote myself a note about this scripture; I said, this was a big assignment but it really only required going forward and living the life he was supposed to live. Being Born Again is a bit like getting off a boat and going and living a new life. We really do begin in a strange place even if we are in the same place because all things become new. We are no longer slaves to sin and not nearly as comfortable with it. As time goes on, we realize that the good life is the God life.
How did Noah find grace and favor with God? In the whole earth only Noah and his family were selected for survival! All he had to do was build a huge boat! He also needed to convince his family that this was a good plan. And we also have to consider what all the neighbors had to say about this thing he was doing.
Funny, we get off a boat and then we in sense build one. Most people have to explain to people what has changed and then put in an effort to establish a new life. There is always someone who objects to a changed life. There are many reasons for that, but we are not looking at that today, we are looking at what God did and what Noah was called to do.
Considering this, caused me to consider how I was so fortunate. Do you ever wonder how or why God managed to get your attention? I mean the Bible tells us that Noah was an honorable man who found favor with God. I thought that I was at least a bit honorable, but after meeting Jesus, I could find no good reason for Him to add me to the family even when I asked. Mercy; God had mercy on me!
So Noah built the boat, rode out the flood and now he is told to fill the earth again. So did he go through guilt for surviving or simply get on with the plan. Well the first thing he did was build an altar and give thanks to God. Can you picture his family as he is burning up part of their food supply? Many people have a hard time with offerings to God but we should just do it. After all, God had just saved their lives. But that is another subject you can consider on your own. I will just say that it is good to give thanks while it is fresh on our minds. I have felt a need to do things before and not done them right away; it takes more effort to do them later and some of the enjoyment is gone.
The main point I feel led to make in this is the simplicity we have in Christ. Now that the flood was over, Noah had a life to live. We all have a life to live and that is all God asks us to do. Live our lives loving and honoring Him. We may not do it perfectly. We may make big messes. But if we will remember who rescued us and allow gratitude to flow, we will get on with living our lives the way God wants. The only requirement is that we want to live that life. He gives us the desires of our hearts. A song we sing says, “This is my desire, to honor you.”
