NOT A TASTE TEST
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you will have no life in you. (John 6:53 NKJ)
This scripture has always been a bit of a head scratcher to me until the Lord spoke the word digest to me. I then had the thought that we are not supposed to treat the things of God like a taste test. Even though the Word does say that we should taste and see that the Lord is good, the understanding would be that once we see that He is good we would eat more and digest the word of God as well.
We must eat the bread of life. Jesus said if we did not we would have no life in us. We must have more than enough so that we can pass on what we have. If we eat the bread of life we will grow to be like him. A long time ago I heard a man preach a message titled “We are what we eat. The goal for all of us is to be representatives of the one we serve.
So we must eat and eat the bread of life until that life is our life. Jesus said we must also drink His blood. To me this says take it in until the blood sacrifice of Jesus and all that flows from it is so real that we live it. It was never intended that we swish it around in our mouth like a tasting event and then spit it out and go on to the next.
I want so much to get to the “all things” God speaks of but I see that until we are confident in God for the normal things of life, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment when we try to jump into all things. This has tripped up many sincere folks.
Remember when God asked the prophet what he was going to do when they come with horses if he had been wearied by the footmen? Well, if we are not confident for the things the birds expect and do not worry about, how in the world will we stand for the impossible?
I pray that God will help us all to eat and digest the bread of life. I pray that we will all be consumed by the One that we consume. I pray that we will know the power of the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I pray that we will all manifest that very power that gives us life.
Many of the people went away; they said it was too hard to understand. When Jesus asked the disciples if they were going to leave too and they said where else can we go, you are the word of life. I don’t think they really had a clue either, but they knew enough to know that there was no life without Him.
We do not need to have total understanding to keep standing, we simply need to keep eating and drinking and trusting. If we do, the Holy Spirit will enable us to digest and manifest the bread of life and we will grow into the understanding.
