NOT ONE THING
"I assure you that the Son can do nothing alone. He does only what He sees His Father doing. The Son does the things that the Father does." (John 5:19 ERV)
What is impossible for God? What can separate you from His love? What would God refuse to do for you that He has promised to do? What do you doubt concerning God? What have you done that God would not forgive? This list of questions could go on and on but if your answer to these and the rest of the list is not, “not one thing,” then you have found a breach in your wall that allows the devil free access.
You see, God has already answered each of these questions for us in His Word and given us the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. If we believe even a little bit that that God would or has ever deserted us, failed us, or planned evil for us; then we do not know Him. It is possible to love God and desire Him and still not know Him.
You might hear someone say how they love a certain person and then have someone else say to them, “Wait till you get to know them.” Now the person may be implying that they are even greater in person or they may be implying the opposite. When it comes to God, it is true that the more we know Him the more we will love Him.
God has made it possible to know Him in deeper and deeper ways. Just as He is always increasing, so is our capacity in Christ to increase in the knowledge of Him. He is always present.
As I considered this, I thought of how He is always present in and with His Word. I never read my Bible without Him showing up to enlighten, encourage, instruct, direct, or correct in one way or another. Then it hit me that whether we are a believer or not, He is present with His Word. All those years when I did not know Him, He was there when I picked up a Bible in a motel. He was there when I sang a hymn as a child or a solo in a church. He was there ready to save me from a lot of trouble and the risk of dying lost and without Him. For a long time the seed was stolen away. But not anymore!
I have resolved that nothing, not one thing, is going to keep me from knowing God in a deeper way. I am certain that there is nothing, not one thing, that is more important than His presence in my life and I intend to nurture that presence. I know that He is present and that He is for me. I have enjoyed His presence so often and so much and yet I think that I have taken it for granted since He promised it to all who would seek Him.
There is nothing He could do for me or give to me that is greater than His presence in my life. I know this is true. I started my life with Him declaring that He did not have to do one more thing for me because the life I found in Him was more than enough. I have learned much since then and all that I learned has returned me to feeling that same way. There is not one thing that is greater than the Life God has given us in Christ. Seek Him. Enjoy Him. Know Him more. Believe Him. Trust Him. Let nothing keep you from Him!
