NOTHING
For assuredly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you(Mat.17:20)
Do you ever find yourself trying to decide exactly what Jesus meant by “NOTHING”? Well it seems that He meant just what He said. In the first part of the verse He had explained to them why they could not cast out a demon. He told them it was because of their unbelief. They had apparently stepped into a realm that they really did not believe was possible for them. We have all bumped into those places in our walk with God as well. At least I assume we all have. I know I have. But all the same, Jesus did say that nothing would be impossible. Just like the angel told Mary that with God nothing is impossible.
Let’s face it, there are a lot of things in the Bible that we believe because they are written. But had we been the one that God spoke it to, we probably would have said it is impossible. Noah had a tough one. Moses said it would never work. All the Prophets had moments where they probably shook their heads. But we know that God did just what He said He would do, and He is still doing it. So why do we balk so at the word nothing.
The Apostle Paul prayed that we would have the eyes of our understanding opened up so that we could know the greatness of the power of God toward those who love Him. I was recently reading a book about the River Glory, and it hit me that God is doing so many things right now that people consider to be unbelievable, to find out who will believe. He needs people who will be doers and not doubters. People who will be spiritual rather than skeptical. People who will walk and not balk, stand and not stall, and fly and not fall. Jesus said that we were fortunate to be able to see, and yet so many refuse to look. We are told to search, and many want to just sit comfortably in what they have already found. This by the way, leads to slow and miserable death in my opinion.
What if, instead of trying to figure out if Jesus meant nothing when He said nothing. We just started walking like we believed that He meant what He said. What if we started speaking to mountains in our own lives and in other peoples lives. Mountains of sickness, broken hearts, blind eyes, mental illness and etc. Some people are doing just that. They have determined that Jesus meant nothing would be impossible. They are believing all that God is doing and rejoicing in it. Not only that, but they are encouraging others to do the same and seeking God to see what He wants them to do. Because of this, many are seeing what before may have seemed impossible.
When Jesus told them He was the One they had been waiting for, they would not believe. When John told them Jesus was the one, few believed. When Jesus died, few believed He would rise again. When He did rise, again it was only a few. And to this day, it seems to be the few who will believe. With each step deeper into the glory of God, it seems that there are a few moving in, and a few more dropping back. But praise the Lord there are few answering the call, and many new believers rushing to the mountain.
One day, God will blow the lid off the thing, and nations will be swept into the kingdom of God. When He does, there will be a few very busy people. I pray that there will be quite a few more by then. Nothing but you can stop you from going on. What do you say?
