NOTHING

Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.(Romans 8:35-40)

Here we are, almost through another year already. Our hearts are tender as we have just been reminded that we all have things to be thankful for, even though events of the last few months have created an emotional roller coaster around the world.

Now as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord, we are reminded that He is always faithful and never changes. He alone offers stability when everything else is in turmoil. This season is a celebration of the greatest love that ever was or ever will be. For God is love and God gave His son to prove just how much He loves us all. And nothing can ever separate us from that love.

So then if God says nothing can separate us from His love, why is so much time spent trying to decide what will keep people from the love God? Think about it. When the subject of the love of God comes up a wide range thoughts flood our minds. For some it is all the reasons that God would not, could not, or should not love them. For others it is thoughts of, “yes God loves me, but He could not love so and so because they have done this or that.” I am sure you can add much to your personal list. The truth according to the Holy Spirit is that nothing can separate us from God’s love.

Obviously sin cannot separate us from His love. We know this, because He died for us when we were still servants of sin. So if He loved us that much before we were adopted is He going to desert us once we are His children? And since He loved us before; we know that He also loves all those who still do not know Him as Father and Lord.

I wonder how it will change us if when we look at people we will consider how much God loves them. Let’s face it we all have come short of the glory of God, but God’s love is greater than our failure. And no, we do not need to practice failing so we can prove His great love. We are supposed to practice the presence of God. Since God is love, then we should practice love.

Our call is to share the good news of Jesus Christ. We are to encourage others while revealing the kingdom of God for all to see. It is the Holy Spirit who works in the hearts of people and draws them to the great love of God. We need to allow Him to work through us instead of trying to take His place!

May God help us all to reveal to the world the great love with which we have been loved? And may we all experience and become more and more grounded in that love until we, like Christ, are expressions of that love.
